Week Ending Friday 13th December

In Literacy the children had a go at writing their own stories.  They learnt a winter story and then had a go at changing some of the different elements, like the characters and the setting.  The children were then asked to think about the wow words they could use.

Here is our story.

We were very impressed by the children’s plans and their story writing.  Maybe your child could use the photograph to help them to re-tell the story to you and tell you the elements they changed in their story.

In Maths this week the children have learn about money. At the beginning of the week we introduced all of the different coins and what they look like.  They then used 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins to make different amounts.  The children used their knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help them.  Later on in the week the children had a go at adding up coins and finding out how much money they had.  They also had a go at an investigation to find out how many different ways they could make a certain amount.

e.g.
10p
5p + 5p
2p + 2p + 2p + 2p + 2p
5p + 2p + 2p + 1p

Maybe your child could have a go at finding all the different possibilities to make 20p/30p/40p/50p/£1

During the week the children have been practising the Christmas play.  They have all learnt their lines and the dances and we thank you for helping them at home.

We look forward to seeing you at the performances.

Also this week year 1 had a very special treat in their woodland learning.  They went down the Robin Hood trail and were read a story.  They also had a cup of some warm hot chocolate.
Here are some photographs.
