Friday 6th June

This week we have been writing stories using the fairy tale 'Jack and The Beanstalk' as a starting point. The children chose their own characters and setting. They worked hard to remember all the things we have taught them this year. They had to remember their full-stops and capital letters. They had to use 'wow words' (adjectives) to make their stories more interesting and descriptive. We also encouraged them to use a range of sentence starters  such as: soon, next, although, after a while. Some children used connectives (and, when, because, so, if...) to join sentences and to add extra information to a sentence. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading their stories. Perhaps you could ask your child to retell their story to you and ask them what they could do to make it a really super story.

In maths we have been reviewing all the areas the children have covered this year including Number, Shape and Measures and Data handling. The children have worked extremely hard.  They have really enjoyed challenging themselves over the week.

In RE, we have been learning about the Bible. Did you know that it has been translated into more than 2000 languages, so that it can be taken all around the world? An eagle can travel long distances too, which is why lecterns in churches have an 'eagle' design to hold the Bible. Our own eagle took an important message to our chosen countries of Thailand, Spain, Wales, Brazil and the Netherlands.

Next week is Science week. We are going to have a carousel of activities and move around the different classes to have a go at all of the exciting science activities. We are really looking forward to our Science Trip to Aldenbury Park next Thursday!  Please can you ensure that all children have a packed lunch for the day and that it is in a named carrier bag.  They will be thrown away after the children have eaten so please make sure there are no spoons etc that you will want back.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 1 Team.
