This week has been Islamic Art week. The children have been finding out more about Muslims and their beliefs. At the moment it is Ramadan and we have been thinking about special times in the year for everyone.
The children have been looking very closely at Islamic artwork. They have been doing their own calligraphy and decorating special words. The children have also looked at the patterns on prayer mats and mosques and in particular they have looked at the geometric patterns. They have been trying to recreate their own. The children have also been looking at the symmetry.
In ICT we have been combining text and images. Hopefully your children have given you an invite to our assembly next week. The children learnt how to search for an image in clip art and insert it into the word document. Then the children typed their invitations and were able to change the font, font size and the colour. As this took a couple of lessons, the children learnt how to save and retrieve their work.
On Thursday, the children were able to meet their new teachers. They spent the morning in year 2; looking at their new classrooms and finding out about all the exciting learning they are going to take part in next year. All the children came back to year 1 with big smiles on their faces expressing how much fun they had had.
Don’t forget our class assembly is on Thursday 17th July at 9:15.
