Friday 3rd October

This week in English we wrote our own recounts about our trip to London.  We used these time words to sequence our sentences:

We also used the story of Mr Gumpy’s Outing to make up our own version where the outing takes place on the River Thames.
In maths we have been writing number sentences and using numicon to calculate the answer. We were then number detectives to find the missing number in a number sentence when the missing number was not at the end.
For example: 4 + ? = 9,     ? + 11 = 22.

Here is a game you could use to prectise your number facts!

We have been extending our learning in ChIL this week.

In phonics we have been reading and writing words and sentences that contain the digraphs  zz, ck and tch. We have been trying really hard to form our letters correctly, sit the letters on the line and have finger spaces between the words.

In ICT we had great fun programming the ‘Beebots’.  We also read a set of instructions and tried to predict where it would end up on the map.

Today we have enjoyed another skipping workshop!

In art we made silhouettes of our favourite London landmarks to create our own London skyline at night and used Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ as our inspiration for the night sky.

After a ‘normal’ week, next week we are looking forward to our Fire of London workshop on Friday! If you are able to help and have not put your name down, please speak to the office, thank you! Please remember that the children do not need to wear school uniform on this day – they can come in in their ‘Fire of London’ clothes! If you have any questions please speak to one of the teachers.

We hope you have a good weekend,
The Year 1 Teachers
