Friday 14th November

It was lovely to see so many Year One children at the Crabtree fireworks on Saturday it gave them a wonderful first- hand experience of seeing and hearing fireworks which really helped them in our English lessons this week.  We began the week by creating our own group firework poems.  We then used our ideas to make a class poem.

The following day we worked in pairs to write a firework poem and on Thursday we wrote our own firework poems independently.

You can read your child’s own firework poem at the consultations next week.

This week in maths we have practised counting up and down in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, and counting up and down from any number to 100 and beyond. We are trying hard to learn all these number facts as we apply this knowledge when we are solving number problems! We have also been consolidating our learning about time, by drawing the hands on clocks, and we have been making our own board games!

In science we have investigated a range of materials. We thought of lots of different words to describe their properties, such as bumpy or smooth, hard or soft, or bendy or stiff. We then worked in groups to sorted the materials according to our own criterion.

Today we have enjoyed dressing up in our pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need. Thank you for your donations.

Have a great weekend.  Remember next week is consultation week.
