Friday 16th January

This week in English we used Pie Corbett’s story map of his version of Dogger.  We read the story map as a class and copied his actions.  Each time word used to sequence the story had an action.  Ask your child what the action is for Once….. The next day…….First……Next………After that……..Finally……..In the end……..We then worked in groups of three to learn the story using Pie’s actions and adding our own actions.
Next we made up our own individual versions of Dogger and recorded it as a story map.  We had to make sure we used the time words to sequence our story.
Finally we wrote our own version of Dogger using our story map to help us remember the sequence of the story.

In phonics we have been learning about the different digraphs used to make the phoneme aw.
aw – paw, jaw, trawl, squawk
au – haunt, launch, autumn
or – for, fort, stork, sport, porch, storm
ore – more,  score, snore, shore

If your child read a book that they really enjoy please encourage them to tell their class teacher so it can be recommended to others in the class.

This week in maths we have been practising our number bonds of 10 and 20. First we played a game with a partner. One of us put down a piece of Numicon and the other one had to lay the piece that would make the total of 10. Some of us extended our learning to make a total of 20. The next day we played number bond bingo! We all card a card with a selection of numbers on. We then took turns to pick up a number card and we could put it on our board if the total of the numbers made 10. We thought that playing games is a great way to learn these important number facts!
We have also used our number bonds to work out related subtraction facts. We found out that by learning one number fact we get three free! For example: if we know 8 + 2 = 10 we also know 2 + 8 = 10, 10 – 2 = 8 and 10 – 8 = 2. We used this knowledge to play a game and we have also recorded our learning as number sentences using the +, - and = symbols.
If you would like to practise the number bonds at home why not play one of our games or try one of these online games:

In ICT this week we have been busy planning our healthy sandwich that we will film ourselves making next week. First we had to write a list of ingredients and then we had to write the instructions, or algorithm, for how we will make it. Please remember to send in the sandwich ingredients next Tuesday in a named plastic bag. The children will be bringing their sandwiches home after school.

We are very sorry but we are unable to load any photos this week, despite our best efforts! We will try again on Monday.

We hope you have a good weekend. Don't forget we have added the targets to your child's progress book on page 7.
