This week in English we have been reading the story Six Dinner Sid by Inga Moore. While the children were listening to the story they recorded any numbers, words or pictures they thought would help them remember the story afterwards.
Then we had a quiz about Six Dinner Sid.
The next day we acted out the story of Six Dinner Sid following a story map. We had to think of our own actions.
On Friday we wrote our own book review about the story and awarded it 1-5 stars. Ask your child how many stars they gave it and why. You may like to read the story at home by following the link below.
Next week the children will be writing their own version of Six Dinner Sid.
In maths this week we have revisiting our learning about adding. First we added on 10 using the number square and we looked for the pattern. We noticed that when we add 10 we always land on the square directly under the one where we started! We thought this mathematical discovery would be really helpful when we are adding larger numbers because we can add on the 10s and we won’t lose or make a mistake! We used this learning to add multiples of 10 and 2 digit numbers. When adding 2 digit numbers first we added on the tens by counting down, and then we added on the ones by counting across.
We have also been using our adding to solve problems. The problem we had to solve was:
Noah saw 12 legs going into the ark. How many creatures did he see?
First we named some animals have and we grouped them according to the number legs they have. Then we drew diagrams, pictures or number sentences to try and find out how many creatures he had seem. We found out is had to be more than 1 but less than 7! Why don’t you ask your child how they tackled this problem?
We hope that you have a good weekend, see you at the celebration assembly next Thursday for the last day of term!
