Friday 21st April

It was lovely to see everyone looking so happy and refreshed on Monday morning. This week in English we have been learning about Harpenden in the past and now, in preparation for creating our own non-fiction books next week. Today we have have enjoyed a walk into town, and looking closely at things we  may have seen many times before! This walk will support our learning in English, history, geography and computing this term. We looked at the different buildings and noticed how they have changed. Ask your child what Prezzo used to be.  We also talked  about which geographical features were human features (made by man) and which were physical features. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us, we hope you enjoyed the afternoon. Maybe you child would like to take your family on a tour of Harpenden and maybe they can teach you something about your town! Have a look at our photos below.

This week in maths we have been revisiting our learning about place value. On Tuesday we developed our fluency at being able to count on and back from any number between 0 and 100. We looked at a variety of number strips and grids and used our knowledge to work out what number came next.  Crossing the ten boundary is tricky e.g. 58, 59, 60, 61 or 72, 71, 70, 69. Help your child practise this at home.

What number is missing?

Write number 35  in the correct place in the number grid

On Thursday we looked at two representations of numbers using dienes and had to compare the two numbers saying whether the representations were equal to each other, or whether one was either more or less than the other.

On Friday we used diene representations again. We had to write the number in words and numerals and then write one more and one less than the number. We need to be able to write numbers in both words and numerals.

Have a great weekend.
