Friday 30th June 2017

We have had a wonderful day at Childwickbury Art Fair today. We enjoyed all our activities and it was inspiring to meet real artists. The children behaved impeccably and thank you to all the kind parents who came with us on our last Year One trip!

We had lots of fun at the mini sports event at Redbourn Infants’ School. Congratulations to the children who represented our school so well, and thank you to those children who stayed at Crabtree but sent us lots of luck!

This week we have started to learn about our final story that we will write in Year One – The Sea Monster by Chris Wormell. We listened very carefully to the story and then we worked in teams to answer quiz questions about the book. During the next few weeks we will be learning this story ‘Story Teller Style’ and writing our own versions, trying to include some of the beautiful language the author used.

This week in maths we have been looking at the 2s, 10s and 5 times tables now we are experts in counting in 2s, 10s and 5s. We investigated which numbers are found in all the times tables above.
Ask your child if
10 would be in the 2 times table?
16 in the 10 times table?
15 in the 5 times table?
Can they explain why?

On Tuesday we revisited our learning about division.  Can your children write the symbol for division.  Can they tell you the words we use?

We did some solved some simple word problems.
We had to show our workings out.
We could choose how we recorded.  We could use
·         - sharing circles
·         - counting in 2s, 10s or 5s
·         - repeated subtraction

In art this week we were learning about colour mixing using watercolour paints.
On Tuesday we learnt about tints and tones and shades.  We added white to make the blue paler and grey or black to make the blue darker.

On Thursday we continued colour mixing using watercolour paints.  We mixed our own secondary colours purple and green using the primary colours.  Next week we will be using our colour mixing skills to paint our own waterlily paintings just like Claude Monet.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Perhaps some of you may go back to Childwickbury Art Festival this weekend.
