Friday 15 December

What an exciting week! First the snow and then our Christmas performances. We hope that you enjoyed them as much as we did and we are sure you feel very proud.

This week in maths we have been learning about shapes. On Tuesday we named the 3D shapes. Can your child name them all?We also talked about the properties of the shapes.
We then spilt into two groups. Some of us went on a treasure hunt looking for 3D shapes in the environment and others sorted 3D shapes by their name and properties.

On Tuesday afternoon we worked in pairs or threes to build a model out of 3D shapes. We then had to say how many cuboids, cubes, cylinders, cones and pyramids were in our models.

On Tuesday we did our own science investigation. We listened to a story about when Father Christmas came home from delivering his presents and he tried to keep the ice cubes in his Christmas fizzy drink from melting. He needed them to swirl the Christmas sparkles and we used different materials to try and make them last as long as possible. We had to observe our experiment closely and record our findings.

Today we have had a science chil when we have the opportunity to investigate further.

This half term, in Woodland Learning we have managed to avoid some of the coldest days thanks to Christmas play rehearsals and so the children have really enjoyed being able to bring you home some of their creations.  As always they love showing you what they have produced, and we have enjoyed some great sessions like:
  • Drama and music activities along a plant growing theme,
  • Clay work - making hedgehogs
  • making the most of the autumn colours by carrying out a colour  investigation and creating land art
Today we had a lovely Christmas lunch.  Look at the fun we have had.Thank you very much to the cooks who made the day so special.

From the children’s point of view, one of the most memorable activities was placing an old sock of their wellies and seeing if it could host any seeds that will grow in the spring – look out for further news.

Monday is our Christmas party so please remember to send your child in to school with a plate of food to eat in the afternoon and party clothes, if they wish to get changed.

We hope you have a lovely weekend
