Thank you for coming to our assembly – we hope you enjoyed it!
We were very proud of all the children: they were confident, happy and full of enthusiasm.
In fact, just as they have been through this whole, long half term! We hope you
gained an insight into our learning by visiting the classrooms and we are sure
you are impressed with how much progress they have made already!
In English this week we have been applying all our learning from
this half term to write our own versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, in the
style of Polar Bear, Polar Bear. We tried to remember to:
- · Hold our pencils correctly
- · Form our letters correctly
- · Use our phoneme fingers to spell words
- · Start each sentence with a capital letter
- · Write the letters on the line
- · Use finger spaces between each word
- Finish each sentence with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
What a lot to remember – oh, and to write in the format of Polar Bear, Polar Bear! We hope you enjoyed sharing your child’s story after assembly.
This week in maths we have been revisiting our learning from Reception of addition. We used the part whole model to help the children understand that a number can be partitioned into two or more parts.
Can your child partition five? Is there just one way? How many ways can they find?
We worked in pairs using the part whole model to partition numbers. We used counters to help us.
On
Wednesday we recorded using the part whole model. We started with counters,
then moved on to numbers and then tried to find different ways to partition the
same number.
On
Friday we used the symbols for addition + and equals =.
3+2=5.
We reinforced the vocabulary for addition
too - plus, add, and, equal to
3
cubes plus 2 cubes is equal to 5 cubes
or 3 cubes add 2 cubes is equal to
5 cubes or 3 cubes and 2 cubes is equal to 5 cubes
We
looked at a range of images and had to write a number sentence to match the image using the + and = symbols.

At
home during half term you may like to
use the part whole models and ask your child which are the parts and which is
the whole. Remember we are embedding the
numbers from 0-10.
We have been using the game ‘Hit
the Button’ to practise quick recall of addition facts within 10. The children are given one part and the whole

Your
child may also like to practise forming their numbers from 0 to 9
correctly. This will help them in their
maths lessons.
This
week in art we painted our own ‘Colour field’ paintings in the style of Mark
Rothko. We used primary colours to mix our own shades and secondary colours. We used photos of landscapes as our inspiration.
