We have had a
wonderful book week and we have enjoyed spending the whole week immersed in
books by Eric Carle!
On Monday we
shared our favourite books from home. We used a format to help us describe our
book to our partner and share our favourite words. This is how we described
Mister Seahorse.
The next day
we listened to Polar Bear, Polar Bear and we noticed the pattern of the words.
Then we used our imaginations and changed some of the words. This would be a
lovely activity to try at home with your child. Here are some of our ideas to
start you off.
 On Wednesday we listened to Mister Seahorse and we looked for the interesting verbs that Eric Carle uses. We also noted that the author uses a different way to say ‘I’m fine thank you’ by each sea creature.    This week during Book Week we have been looking at books by the author Eric Carle. We used his books as a stimulus to our maths lessons.
On Monday we read the story of ‘The
Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Afterwards
we had to solve the problem – if The Hungry Caterpillar ate 10 pieces of fruit
what could he have eaten?

On Tuesday we read the story of
‘Rooster’s Off to See the World’. Afterwards we were given this problem.

On Wednesday we read the counting book
‘1,2,3, To The Zoo’. After reading we
were given a picture of all the animals from the book at the zoo. We worked
in pairs to find as many maths facts as we could. Here is the picture and please talk to your child about the maths in the picture.

On Friday we read the Bad Tempered Ladybird. The children had to tell the time during the story. After we used cog clocks to show different o’clock times.

home talking about the position of the short hour hand and the long minute

Your child may like to choose a
character from one of Eric Carle’s books and create a piece of artwork in his
style and bring it in to share with the rest of the class. We look forward to
seeing them next week.

In art we
looked at some work by the artist Jackson Pollock. In our groups we talked about what we saw. We
noticed his paintings looked drippy, messy and splattery. We watched a video clip about Jackson Pollock
and how he created his paintings.
