On
Tuesday we loved our toy workshop! We had the opportunity to play with a wide
range of toys, to think about what they were made from and to consider how toys
have changed. We then became ‘archaeologists’ and carefully excavated items. We
took turns to describe the item and we sorted them in different ways. In the afternoon we enjoyed making our own
toys and we hope you heard all about it! Thank you very much to all the parents who helped on the day, we could not have done it without you and hope you had fun! Next week we will be writing a recount of our day.
This week in English we have been poets! First we used our
phonics to read some phrases that describe how fireworks look, sound or move.
We
then used our favourite phrases to create poems. The next day we used all our
learning to write our own firework poems. We started each line with the word ‘firework’
and tried to use descriptive words that would ‘put a picture in the readers’ head’.
Finally, we copied up our poems, using our neatest handwriting. We hope you
enjoy reading them when you come to consultation next week.
This week in maths we have been continuing our learning about
addition and using the language of addition – add, plus, equal to
On Monday we found all the number bonds of 10. We used a tens frame to record all the
possible ways. Ask your child how many
ways there are to make 10 with 2 parts. We tried to use a system and work
logically to help us check we had found all the ways.
0 + 10 =10
1 + 9 = 10
8 + 2 = 10
7 + 3 = 10
Can you see a pattern occurring.
Talk to your child about what they can see. Can they continue the pattern.
On
Wednesday we added 2 numbers together.
We talked about putting one number in our head and counting on from that.
On Friday we helped Pudsey Bear add more. Again we put one number in our head and counted on.
We also challenged ourselves with this problem.
Home learning
- You may like to play this game at home that we played in school. Have some pennies in a tin. Tell your child how many are already in there. Then drop in more pennies (totalling no more than 10). Can they tell you how many are now in the tin? Count to check if they were correct.
- Follow the link to practise numbers bonds within 10 or make 10 https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
- Keep practising those addition maths facts as they really help your child in their maths lessons.
Today in science we have been exploring a range of items and first
we decided what it was made from. Then we discussed if the items were:
- · transparent or opaque
- · hard or soft
- · bendy or rigid
- · rough or smooth
- · waterproof or absorbent
We then visited ‘investigation stations’ where we could observe,
touch and compare the different materials. We then sorted them according to
their properties.
Happy weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
