We can't quite believe we've made it to Christmas and that we've completed the first term of Year One. The children have worked so hard over the last term and are understandably exhausted.
We wanted to thank you for all of your support this term, reading the blog, reading every day with your child and practising the maths facts in the progress books at home really does have a direct impact on your child's progress so thank you very much.
We would also like to thank you for your kind and generous gifts and cards, we are really blown away by them. We hope you have a wonderful, restful and peaceful Christmas and we look forward to seeing the children refreshed after the break.
This week the children have had a very festive week in school. On Monday they watched Reception and Year Two's dress rehearsals of their Christmas plays. We also made Christmas cards on Monday. The children were asked to make one Christmas card for their family or a family member, and then they were asked to make one Christmas card for the residents at Willow Court. Willow Court is an old people's home very nearby to Crabtree and we feel it is important to teach the children about community spirit. Miss Aukett delivered the cards this week and they were very, very grateful for the time and effort your children put into making them.
In English this week, the children have been writing descriptive words and sentences to describe a Wintery scene.
Over the holiday your child might like to write some descriptive words, sentences or even a story about one of the the pictures below:
The children also found out their elf name this week. Ask your child if they can remember what theirs is. The children wrote their elf name down, drew themselves as an elf and wrote about what sort of elf they would be.
On Wednesday the children enjoyed their 10 apple treat and watched a Christmas film. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in films for the children to vote on them - we have given them all back out to the children so hopefully they are safely home now!
On Thursday the children learnt about Hanukkah in RE. We listened to the story of Hanukkah and learnt about the importance of oil.
We looked at how children celebrate Hanukkah and played the game Dreidel and made our own dreidels.
Then On Thursday afternoon the children enjoyed a Christmas party in their classrooms. We enjoyed dancing and party games.
Finally, we made it to Friday! The panto 'Beauty and the Beast' came in to school and the children had a fantastic time watching it.
We would like to remind you that we have sent home Christmas holiday homework which we will be looking at on the first couple of days back in January so please do check your child's book bag if you haven't already.
Also, please do continue practising cursive writing with your children at home using the letterjoin website.
Once again we would really like to thank you for your support, cards and gifts - they are never expected but very much appreciated.
And one last thing! Thank you so much for your donations to our reverse advent calendar. We were blown away and FEED in St Albans will appreciate it so much. The children are really proud of themselves for being such excellent members of the community and it is lovely to see, so thank you.
