Rehearsals for our Christmas production have begun and the children have been practising lines, songs and dance moves ready to give a fantastic, confident performance next week. Please help your children learn their part in the play (whether that is a song, a dance or lines) it really does help with their confidence when they step onto the stage.
On Monday it is our dress rehearsal so please do ensure your child has their costume in school if they haven't already.
In maths this week we have continued learning about addition and subtraction. The children have been making up stories to go with subtraction calculations to 10 and 20 e.g. There were 8 birds in a tree, 3 flew away, how many are left?
At home why don't you come up with your own addition and subtraction stories.
We have also been using 10s frames and counters to help us solve addition and subtraction problems to 10.

Ask your child to show you how to use it when you come up with a subtraction story at home.
On Tuesday the children played a game involving 3 dice. 2 of the dice needed to be the same colour, and one was a different colour. This is a great game to play at home to develop your child's mathematical fluency. Here are the instructions:

This week in English the children have been free writing. This means they can do any type/genre of writing they would like to in their English book. The children were given the topic 'toys' to write about (as that is our Year One topic at the moment). The children were focusing on writing in sentences. We said they must sit their letters on the line and use finger spaces. They should use full stops and capital letters and they could extend their sentences using 'and' or 'because'.
The children were given stimuli to help them come up with ideas for their independent writing, however, they could choose their own idea if they didn't want to use the stimuli. Ask your child what they chose to write about.

On Friday we enjoyed a history workshop about toys from the past. The children were able to touch, feel and use toys from the past and compare them to modern day toys. Thank you so much to the parent helpers who came in to support the smooth running of the workshop, we really appreciate it.
On Monday it is our dress rehearsal for our Christmas play. The children will perform to Reception, Year Two and any siblings in the juniors. Please ensure your child's costume is in school for this, if it is not already.
